Do you know what a helicopter mom is? I bet you've meet one or two. They are the moms that hover over their child all of the time and swoop in to fight their battles before the child even has a chance to open his or her mouth. You've seen her. She is the one that is up in the coaches face when he sits her child on the bench or the one that rushes to the school ready to attack because she has the slightest whiff that something unfair may be happening to her child.

Well to all helicopter moms out there that rush in to fight all of their child's battles, I say to you the following: "Mom's, stop fighting all of your kid's battles - It's going to turn them into whiny, weak adults"!!

As a mom, it's perfectly natural to want to advocate for and protect your child, after all that is your job, right? But how far is too far? I have 3 children and I myself have been to the school on occasions to be sure that things are straightened out and on the right course but knowing when to step up and when to step back is quite like balancing on a tight rope. It takes practice, skill and lots of trust.

When the helicopter mom swoops in, she honestly thinks that she is helping but most of the time her actions are detrimental to the child and also embarrassing. Each time you completely fight a battle for your child or totally remove them from sticky situations, is a time that they are missing out on learning a valuable life lesson. Of course there are some battles that children just shouldn't and absolutely can't fight alone. It is a mom's job to determine when those times arise.

I will be the 1st mom to admit that it's very tough to watch your child stumble and fall through life. Keep in mind that it is much harder to see an adult who acts like a child who just can't adjust to the many challenges that life throws at them because they were always coddled.

Here are a few steps you can take to raise strong children:

Set a good example - Children will copy you when you do good or bad. If you want your child to be strong and assertive, be sure that you stand up for your beliefs and views as well. Let your child see your confidence shine and they soon will begin to emulate that behavior.

Don't Sugar Coat -Always be honest with your child about the complex issues they may face. Be sure to break things down to your child's level so that they understand the hard issues. Talk openly to your child about the possible battles they may face. When it comes to the issue of peer pressure, help them to come up with ways to combat it. Use real life examples and role play in order to get the point across.

Positive Words and Praise - Be sure to let your child know that you value people who respectfully speak their mind. Praise your child when you see them exhibiting strong, respectful behavior. Using words of praise works well help to boost your child's confidence level.

This issue of supplying our children with the tools that they need to be assertive and confident is important. The end result is that if you don't learn when and how to step back, your child will not be prepared for the bigger issues that he or she will face as they grow up.

Your prospects won’t buy from you unless they trust you.

Read that again, because fully understanding that deceptively simple sentence is crucial to the bottom line of your business. If you can’t establish trust, you can’t make sales. Period.

So, how do you start building trust? Like this:

1. Offer great customer service. Whether you have a prospect contacting you for the first time with a pre-sale question or you have an existing customer needing help, you need to provide prompt, professional service.

2. Start a blog. A blog gives you an opportunity to interact with your prospects and customers. It also gives you an opportunity to show value to your prospective customers. When they see what kind of help you give away for free, they’ll be excited to become a paying customer.

Tip: Don’t yet have a blog? Go to WordPress.org and download the free files.

3. Interact with prospects on social media sites. Yet another way to build relationships (and trust) is by using social media sites, especially Facebook.com and Twitter.com. There you can interact one-on-one, as well as provide good information.

4. Use your prospect’s name. Using someone’s name helps build rapport. Online you can collect your prospect’s first name when he joins your newsletter list. Offline, be sure to ask for his name so that you can use it during your sales talk.

Tip: Don’t overuse someone’s name, as that can backfire and make them feel uncomfortable. Using it once or twice during an initial meeting should be enough.

5. Follow up with your prospects. The vast majority of people who come to your website or store are unlikely to ever return – that’s why you need to get their contact information so that you can follow up with them.

Usually this involves offering your prospects something valuable in exchange for their contact information.

Example: You can offer a free report on your website. Or if you have a bricks and mortar store, you can offer prospects a chance to win something in a contest. Just be sure in all cases that your prospects know you will be following up with them.

6. Show your value now. Don’t make the mistake of promising a lot of value in the future… but only once someone pays you money. Instead, show your value now using newsletters, a blog, social media and good customer service.

7. Be accessible. This one is of particular importance to those who have an online business. The bottom line is not to hide from your prospects. This means offering multiple ways for your prospects and customers to reach you. The more accessible you are, the easier it is for people to trust you.

8. Get personal. If your prospect or client mentions a special event (like an upcoming wedding or birth of a child), write this information down so that you can refer to it again. Then the next time you see this person (either in person or even online, like on Facebook), you can ask the person about the event. He’ll be impressed that you remembered – and your relationship will grow!

9. Give your prospects what they want. Here’s the key: Help your prospects even if it doesn’t directly benefit you.

Example: Recommend a product that doesn’t garner you a commission (maybe the product is even free). When the prospect sees that you really care about him and his problem, his trust in you will grow – and before you know it, he’ll be a loyal customer!

10. Be professional. Finally, maintain a professional appearance, whether through your own grooming, your brick and mortar store, your marketing materials or your website. First impressions count. And continued professionalism helps build trust.

To make money online many people jump right in before they are properly prepared. You know that to be a rocket scientist, a doctor, a brick layer, a construction worker, an office worker, a teacher there are prerequisites, things you must learn, before you can be successful, you don't just jump right in unprepared.

The same applies to the Internet marketing industry even though there are unsavory people out there who'd have you believe it's a "Walk in the Park" and requires no more than the belief that you can just do it.

And I'll have to admit, it is a walk in the park compared to what you have to put up with in the working world punching a clock being a subordinate to someone who does not have your interests in mind, but there are still rules you have to follow and pitfalls you must avoid to actually make Internet marketing work for you.

Most people will not make a dime online and yet there are others who will make more in one month than most people make in a whole year. Why is that?

My answer begins with the age-old chicken or egg question, "what comes first the chicken or the egg"? Personally I vote for, well never mind, each argument you or I make comes back to the same old conclusion - I have no clue and I don't think many of us do either.

But one thing I do have a clue about and know for sure is that to make money online you must first have Passion for the company products and/or service of any Internet business from which you expect to make money.

Passion in this sense simply means that you've researched and like the company and products or services. It is then that you translate that like (or Passion) into the education, excitement and work that usually accompany Passion.

I will have to say that many online entrepreneurs are so good at what they do that they ignore passion because they can sell anything. But I'm concerned about those of you who are not so knowledgeable at working an online business successfully.

Now, I'm not trying to make anyone believe that Passion is the only thing necessary. Because to be successful you must also have a good website, good marketing, widespread advertising, company support, effective keywords, and etc. Those things are often learned from the company you join - but sidestep Passion and you reduce your chances for success dramatically.

It therefore follows that, if you have no Passion for the company and the products and services provided by that company, again, you won't attempt to do the work you are being taught.

Internet marketing work is typically not all that difficult or time consuming but it does take motivation caused by Passion to get you off and running with a sustained effort so that you won't stumble.

You have a great resource in the Internet search engines to search about the Internet Marketing industry for business opportunities, USE IT!

Your research should uncover a company that you like and have confidence in. It should be solid, founded on great principles, and easy to understand with great products and services that are sell-able for which you can have Passion. If you don't find it move on.

You can find the right opportunity containing the attributes identified above.

Comments like, well, that one sounds good and the compensation plan is excellent so I guess I'll start that business - does not sound like a decision based on anything near Passion. And remember when you hear that an Internet "guru" does that, don't be tempted, because as I said earlier they are experienced and can sell just about anything, without being Passionate about the company products and services.

Note: By the way it's your goal to get to the point where you can sell about anything online. That end skill and goal is a worthy one indeed.

Remember, there are other steps you must make before you step into Internet Marketing but if you don't first find the right company products and services to be passionate about, all of those other steps may just cause you a lot of frustration instead of bringing you great success.

Not being Passionate about a company and products and services that has market proof that it will sell is a pitfall you simply must avoid.

How to Use Incentives to Get Extra Sales

The vast majority of your prospects aren’t all that passionate about your offer.

Truth is, they’re kind of lukewarm. They’re interested, but they’re not taking their credit card out. Instead of making a buying decision, they decide to “think about it.”

Of course you know what happens: They forget about your offer. They don’t return to your store or sales page. Some of them may even make the conscious decision to NOT buy your product.

So what can you do to get your prospects to get excited and take action NOW?

Simple: Offer them an incentive if they order now. Do it right, and you’re virtually guaranteed to make more sales!

Generally, an incentive can take two forms:

1. You offer a discount. One idea is the straightforward discount, such as offering a percent-off. Another ideas is to offer a discount on the overall package, such as by offering free shipping.

Tip: You can even make it a limited-time discount so that your prospects feel a sense of urgency.

2. You offer one or more bonus products. Again, you can even make the bonus offer limited to increase the sense of urgency.

Offering a discount is a pretty straightforward incentive. So let’s talk about how to offer a bonus as a buying incentive.

Here then are the seven keys to offering bonuses that generate extra sales:

• Make sure the bonus is desirable. Point is, if your prospects don’t care about the bonus product, then it won’t help you generate any sales. So make sure it’s something that your prospects already want. Something that gets them excited!

• Create a valuable bonus. Just because you’re giving the product away for free with a purchase doesn’t mean this bonus should be worth little to no money. Quite the contrary – it should have a high perceived value in the prospect’s mind.

• Choose bonuses that are easy to deliver. This is particularly true if you’re selling downloadable products online, such as software or information. Point is, you want to be able to deliver the bonus instantly – right alongside the main product – without you having to manually deliver the bonus.

• Supply an exclusive bonus, whenever possible. If the prospect can get the bonus somewhere else, he might just do that. So try to offer exclusive bonuses to help make the buying decision easy.

• Offer a bonus that compliments the main product. For example, let’s say you’re selling a book about retirement planning. Offering retirement-planning worksheets and software as a bonus would be a great incentive.

• Sell the bonus. If you’re selling via a sales page, don’t just list the bonus. Instead, sell it just the way you’re selling the main product, meaning you should list the benefits of this bonus product or service.

• Remember that you can offer products OR services. Let’s say you’re selling exterior landscaping supplies and information. As a bonus you can offer a free consultation where you provide specific landscaping ideas for buyers. Or if you’re selling a copywriting product, you can offer a sales letter critique.

Customizing Your WordPress Website or Blog

Almost everyone who installs their own WordPress theme will want to customize the header. How you do this depends on the theme in question.

For most themes, you can use an FTP manager like Filezilla and then go in and replace the current header image on the theme. Again this will vary by theme so the best way to determine how to change your header is to find out if there are any support files with your theme and read them.

The best thing about buying premium themes is that they almost always come with user support as well as forums and files to make installation and customization easy for you.

Other items to customize:

Sidebar - Many people want to remove the ‘Meta’ information that is added to WordPress by default. You may also want to add an email opt-in and RSS Feed info to your sidebar. The easiest way to make changes to the sidebars is to find themes that are ‘widget’ ready. Widget ready themes allow you to easily add and remove widgets to your theme without knowing any special or custom coding. You simply click on the widget selection under ‘Appearance’ in the left menu of your WordPress software.

Background Color - If you know some HTML the background color is fairly easy to edit. In WordPress find your Stylesheet and the background color coding is usually very close to the top of the stylesheet. Again, this is made much easier if you choose a WordPress theme with different color options. There are many themes out there that now offer various color options. This would mean that you don’t need to make any coding changes yourself. Woo Themes is a great choice if you are looking for themes with different colors.

Footer - You’ll want to add your copyright to the footer of any blog or website you create with WordPress. You can also go to the CopyScape website and grab a graphic that shows your site is protected by copyright. To edit the footer you will need to go into your themes source files. These are found under the Appearance section but this time you will need to click ‘Editor’. Adding company information as well as privacy policy links in the footer section is a good idea also.

When choosing a theme look at what options are available. This will make doing the customization much easier when you come to it.

3. Website Hosting – Once you have a domain name you will need to host your website somewhere. It’s kind of like paying rent for the space your website occupies on the internet.

Find a host with a good control panel that offers you easy to install software programs and also good website statistics tracking.

4. Website Software or Coding From Scratch – Now the final step is to actually build a website.

This can be done in a number of ways:

From Scratch – Unless you want to spend a lot of time studying, creating and editing coding forget this option!

Website Builder – A website builder is a piece of software that is included with some hosting companies and allows you to build your website online. These can be good but some have limited options.

Website Software – There are many different programs out there that will help you build a website without having to know the coding behind it. Programs like Dreamweaver, Microsoft Expressions and NVU are a few. A car is filled with gas to make it run. Eventually the gas runs out and your car won’t move unless the car is replenished with fuel. The same goes for you. Emotional issues can develop when you don’t take the time to take care of your emotional well-being, not to mention the physical results of emotional neglect.

Mom time refuels the tank so that you can give to your family as well as yourself in equal measure. Don’t be ashamed to sit for fifteen minutes doing nothing. In the springtime, relaxing in a hammock under a tree is the perfect getaway from the pressures of the day. Reading a book for 30 minutes can also seem like heaven to many moms.

Here are a few tips to help you fit in much needed “mom” time:

1. Get up early if you have to. When you have kids, the day begins at a hurried pace. Once you hit the ground running, there is no stopping you. Waking 30 minutes to an hour ahead of time means quiet solitude to drink your coffee, read a book, meditate or listen to music.

2. Turn ordinary experiences into major events. When you take a bath, add candles, bubble bath, quiet music and/or an inflatable bath pillow. Your regular bath has now become a spa level experience. If you watch a movie, turn out the lights, pop a bag of microwave popcorn and curl up on the couch.

3. Ask your significant other for help. Kids love their mothers but time spent with dad is important too. Let them bond with dad while you go shopping for a new outfit or root around in the garden. Since the time is yours, do whatever you like.

4. Use the Boy Scout motto. Always be prepared and you can spend more time in a relaxed mode. Fix lunches the night before. Iron clothes for the next day and place backpacks by the front door so kids can grab them on their way out. The fewer things you have to do throughout the day, the calmer you will be with your family and not experience burnout.

5. Take exercise breaks. When you get a few minutes the last thing you want to do is exercise but getting a little physical activity in your day has far-reaching implications. Exercise helps you to think clearly and stretches the muscles. Also, stress will drain away as powerful endorphins are released into your system. Do jumping jacks during a television commercial or jog to the bus stop to pick up the kids.

6. Laugh at regular intervals. Keep a funny calendar cube on your desk or subscribe to a daily joke site. Laughing releases stress and can lift your spirits significantly. It also keeps the abs tight.

Moms, take care of you. Your family would miss you if you were not around to love and care for them. You owe it to yourself and you deserve a break from the daily hustle and bustle.

Designing a website doesn’t have to be a costly venture. It all depends on how you go about it and if you choose to use free website design tools.

If you choose to hire a website design firm you can expect to pay thousands of dollars. Even when hiring a firm there is work for you to do. They will need your input on design ideas, content help and your overall knowledge of the business you run or intend to start.

Maybe you want to do it yourself to save some time and learn a new skill. The first thing to do is start researching just how to build a website yourself. You’ll find out that there are a number of ways to do it:

1. Write code: This is very time consuming and it’s like learning a new language. If you want to learn, great, but unless you plan on becoming a coding GEEK this is probably not the option for you.

2. Computer Software: You can buy software programs to install on your computer that allow you to create a website and then upload it or edit it live when connected to the internet. This is an option but it’s not free and there is a learning curve.

3. Online Software: There are many software programs online that you can use to build and host a website. Some are free, some are paid, some are included with your hosting.

So let’s say you pick option three, using online software. Next, let’s explore some of the free website design tools available online:

Website Builders:

Weebly: This is a company that offers a free website builder. The disadvantage to this is that it is hosted on their server, meaning you have less control.

WordPress: WordPress is well known as a blogging platform but it is also excellent for designing websites. You can get high quality templates for free or paid to design a website. WordPress comes free with many quality hosts such as Bluehost.

Photo and Graphics Editors:

When designing a website you usually need some graphics. Photoshop is the program most commonly associated with graphics creation but its costly. Here are some other options:

Picnik: This is a great online tool to help you add a professional touch to any images you want to include on your website, and it’s free.

Gimp: Gimp is a program you will need to download to your computer but it does a lot of what Photoshop can do and it’s also free.

There are tons of resources you can find online to help you build your website for free. My absolute favorite for building websites is WordPress.

Strategic Planning Improves Results with Consistent Implementation

Strategic planning only helps organizations when they are kept active and implemented. The strategic plan defines the business direction. That direction is based on the future, the vision of the company. Before an effective strategic plan can be developed a clear and compelling vision is needed. Visions are optimistic, the ideal picture of the future. The strategic plan that results from the leadership team’s strategic planning, is the map to that vision and then it is only effective if it is implemented.

Strategic plans can sound intimidating and overwhelming to many small business owners. The most effective strategic plans are those that are simple, completed with the leadership team and key people in the company. Complex documents that consume excessive amounts of time to create don’t guarantee success. In fact, the large and cumbersome strategic plan can be so overwhelming that it just doesn’t work. Strategic planning sessions that go on and on for months also fail because so much time is consumed in the planning and the implementation, which is the key, is pushed aside. The goal to have the perfect strategic plan doesn’t produce results. Instead, the team that engages in strategic planning and produces a good working document is more likely to succeed.

To create your strategic plan:

Start with vision. Write down what you envision for the future. What does the future of your business look like? What do you want for the future? Vision stories are inspiring, it’s your dream. Once you have created your vision you can begin building strategies.

The vision is the destination, where you are going. The strategies are the map that gets you to the vision. Company values are the guide or the “compass” in our map metaphor for making decisions along the way. Values keep you oriented and in alignment. When values are out of alignment the company is off track; not moving in the direction of the vision.

Strategic goals can be limited to the top 6-10. By having fewer goals the plan is able to stay alive and in front of you and the team. By alive, it means that the plan is always where you can see it, use it and keep working on it. It means that the team is focused on the strategic goals at all times, talking about them, brainstorming on them and reporting to each other their successes and challenges.

To set strategies for your business first look at the vision, the different aspects of the vision. Brainstorm all of the goals, all of the strategies for each aspect of the vision. With brainstorming it is important to get all of the ideas out and write them down without judging them or editing them. Often the best idea comes from an idea that at first look seemed too wild or crazy. Ideas jump off of other ideas.

Once you have brainstormed all of the possible goals, prioritize them. Often strategic goals can be grouped with similar strategies. This can help in the prioritization process. The goal is to narrow the list down to the top 6-10 strategies. What are the goals or strategies that will give your business the future you envision, that will create a breakthrough that will produce the results that you want? Those are the goals that you should be selecting as top priorities.

Creating a powerful strategic plan is just one of the first steps. Many organizations have strategic plans that are well thought out and crafted. Where they fall short is in the implementation of that plan.

Implementation is the key. If you fail to implement, the results will not be what you set out to achieve.

Implementation is the result of focused and continuous action. Strategic plans don’t just happen on their own: they require your attention. By keeping the plan in front of you and the team responsible for the plan, focus is maintained. Regular meetings about the plan also keep the plan moving in the right direction. Check-in meetings hold people accountable. When teams don’t meet and don’t keep their eye on the plan, the day to day interferes and the status quo remains. In order to make changes in the results that you achieve there has to be intention and commitment on the part of the team. The check-in meeting gives the team the opportunity to review what is happening, what is interfering with the results they want and need and make the changes necessary to change the outcomes. Through the intention of the leadership, the plan and the team, the culture of the workplace can shift from one of non-performance to one of performance focused.

Performance focused companies are companies that are thriving. The energy of high performing teams shifts the energy of the whole organization. It becomes more positive and contagious. People become excited about the vision, the plan and their implementation of the plan. Results create energy and excitement that keeps the plan moving, it propels the plan and the ultimate results of the company.

Organizations that produce results have a clear vision of the future; have a plan that is simple and strategic; and they work on the plan all the time. Their actions are designed to move that plan forward. They don’t let themselves or others get in the way. Through effective strategic planning and by implementing the strategic plan organizations achieve results.

User-Friendly Website Design

When I started my first e-commerce website I think it was very useful that I knew how to create and edit my own websites. Without having that skill it would have been frustrating and time consuming to try to figure out the best way to design a user-friendly website that I could edit and add content to myself.

I see this as a common problem with those looking to build websites.

Many people pay thousands of dollars to a designer who makes them a beautiful site. Then what? The site just sits there like a bump on a log, doing nothing and getting nowhere because the owner does not have a user-friendly site they can actually edit on their own. Many people blow their budget on getting the site designed but have nothing left to pay for expensive website updates anytime they want to make a change.

That’s why I believe it is imperative that you learn how to update and add content to your own website, even if you are going to hire someone to do it for you.

How do you update your own website?

It’s not as hard as you might think. You don’t have to take years of graphic and website design courses. You don’t have to learn complicated coding that looks like a foreign language you’ll never figure out. You absolutely don’t have to pay thousands to get a professional looking website up and running.

Website Builders

The first way you should know about to build your own website is a website builder. A website builder is usually a website that you log into with templates you can use to build your own website. This is fairly restrictive but the good thing about a website builder is that it’s very easy to use and much like using a program such as Microsoft Word to build your website.

Blogs

A blog is actually a website, it’s just in a little different format than the standard website. You can get a blog up and running fairly quickly and easily and you can also update it with very little experience.

The problem with both methods to build a website is that the content is hosted on another website. When you host your website anywhere but on your own hosting you are taking a risk that it could be removed at any time and you are also giving up control to the place where you host your content.

My recommendation for the best way to design a user-friendly website that users can edit content easily is WordPress. Yes, WordPress is also a blogging platform but it can also be used to build a more traditional looking website. It is easy to edit and if you know how to edit Word documents you can probably hit the ground running with this program.

No matter which way you decide to go to build your website keep in mind who will own your content when you’re done, how long it will take you to learn the program and if you can outsource the work at a later date should you need to.

Building Your Own Free Website or Blog

So you’re ready to start your own website. You decide to take matters into your own hands and Google “build free websites myself”.

What you see next boggles the mind!

The options are all over the map. From website builders to coding to Dreamweaver and beyond. It’s confusing and frustrating trying to figure out what exactly to choose to build your own website for free.

I’m going to offer you some advice based on my own ten plus years experience building free websites for myself.

First, it doesn’t hurt to learn a little HTML. HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language but that’s not really all that important. What you need to know is that it allows you to see websites in more than just plain text, it makes them look ‘pretty’. Websites wouldn’t have bolding, different sized fonts, images and more without HTML.

Learning a little HTML is not as complicated as it sounds. A great website to learn from is W3Schools.

Next, you’ll need to decide what type of program you’ll use to create your website.

You can get both free hosting and free website design from a number of places but I would caution against getting free hosting. If you don’t pay for hosting then you won’t own your own website. That means the company where you host it will have complete control over what ads they show on your site as well as the ability to pull your website down anytime they see fit.

Now, I’m going to recommend to you an easy way to set up a website that is going to allow you to easily edit and update your website. Sound good?

The program I use for all my own websites is called WordPress. WordPress is a free software program that is largely customizable. WordPress also has add-ons that are called plug-ins. These plug-ins are also free and are developed by experts who want to get their name out there. The plug-ins add tons of extra features to an already great program.

One of the best things about WordPress is that you can edit your website in much the same way you edit a Word document. There is no need for coding experience or complicated updating procedures (though as mentioned earlier a little HTML knowledge will be useful to you).

Now you might be wondering how to make a website with WordPress.

First you start with a great host (such as Bluehost) that offers cpanel and Simple Scripts. Using Simple Scripts you can install your new website within a few clicks and a few minutes.

Biggest Obstacle To Making Money Online

What are the qualities of a good website?

It’s a lot simpler than you think!

A good website is simply a site that provides it’s target market with what they desire. Now this wouldn’t be a very long or useful article if I left it at that so I’ll expand on this idea by providing you with seven tips to reach your target market with your website:

1. Easy to Read -Don’t make it hard for your visitors to read the information they’re looking for. Use a font that is large and easy to read. Also don’t make the background of your writing dark and your actual writing light. For example white text on a black background is terrible for reading, so are bright reds, pinks, greens, etc. Don’t mess with this or you’ll lose readers. Keep your text black on a white background for the easiest readability.

2. Easy to Find – Don’t hide the good stuff. Make sure your website navigation makes sense and makes it easy for your visitors to find what they need. It’s best not to have a huge selection on the main page of your website. When faced with too many decisions people usually choose none. Make main categories and then drill down to deeper pages if you need to.

3. Lead Them Through – Don’t expect your visitors to find their way through your site. Take every opportunity you can to lead them through and show them the way.

4. Provide Basics – The basic pages most websites will need are a ‘Home’, ‘About’, ‘Contact’ and ‘FAQ’ page. Most people expect these pages on a website. Provide them.

5. Have a Clear Purpose – Do people know what your website is about when they hit the main page? Is the purpose clear? Make sure your visitors know what your website is about and how it can help them. Don’t make them search for this information or they might end up going somewhere else.

6. Offer Solutions – Are people coming to your website with a problem? Don’t just offer information, make sure to offer solutions. If you are providing information be sure to lead them towards the next step. This will help connect your visitors to what you want and allow you to make more money.

7. Test, Track and Tweak – No website is perfect in the first go. Think of your website as a brand new baby and stay by it’s side as it learns to talk, to walk, to ride it’s bike. Make sure you pay attention to your website and watch as it grows and you’ll be amazed at how intuitively you will be able to make decisions as time goes by.

When someone decides to sell their products or services on the internet, the first thing they usually do is set up a website. After that first step many people feel lost as to what to do next.

There’s pay per click, affiliate programs, social networking, search engine optimization, blogging and so much more.

How do you decide what to do first?

It might seem like the first thing to do is start bringing a steady stream of traffic to your website so you can start making those sales. Before you do that, the best thing to do is make sure your site is really ready to get traffic coming through the door.

If your website isn’t ready to sell, there’s no point in bringing a single visitor to it because they’ll just come and go without doing a thing for your business.

Here are four things you must make sure you have taken care of before you send anyone to your website:

1. Keyword Research – If you’re not doing keyword research then you are blindly guessing what people want. You need to find out what people are looking for and give it to them.

This is a very important step and it’s often overlooked. I can tell you for the longest time I thought keyword research was boring and not that important, so I ignored it. I spent a lot of time building websites that very few people came to visit.

Once I decided to actually research what people wanted and then used those keywords to optimize my site, I began to see traffic growing because people were searching for those terms.

Doing your keyword research doesn’t have to be hard. One of the best sites to find very targeted keywords is Wordtracker.

2. Copywriting – You don’t have to be a copywriting wizard to have great copy on your website. The words you use on your site determine what happens when those visitors stop by. Make sure you KNOW what you want them to do so you can tell them to do it.

Every page on your website should have a purpose.

There are really only two basic actions you want your visitors to take when they come to your product or service website:

- They can buy from you.

- They can look for more information.

If you keep these two actions in mind then everything you write can have a purpose. Of course you want to keep a good balance and not try to sell all the time, or not give away free information all the time.

3. Tracking – Once you start getting visitors, you’re going to want to know where they came from. If you know where your visitors are coming from then you can go ahead and do the same things to bring more traffic to your site.

Some hosting programs come with a statistics program, but not all of them give you the information you need.

Google offers a great program called Google Analytics that you can use to create very detailed reports and track details of where people come from and what they do on your site.

Here are some things you’ll want to track:

- what sites people visit from

- what pages they visit

- how long they stay

- what keywords they search to find you

4. Newsletter or Mailing List – The majority of people that come to your site won’t buy at first. So, you want them to take that second action of looking for more information.

You don’t have to do a big newsletter each week if you don’t have the time. Another option is to have a quick tips list each week. It’s just a quick way to keep in touch, give people some valuable information, and make an offer every now and then.

The marketing strategies that you are currently using can become stagnate and ineffective. If you are not constantly evaluating what you are doing and what other strategies you can implement you can lose touch with your target market and how to reach them effectively. It is not a time to get comfortable with the status quo. It is a time to be watching, evaluating and implementing all that you can.

Taking on new strategies can be overwhelming. Twitter, for example is a marketing tool that many laughed at when it first came on the scene. Even the media questioned what it was and why people would use it. But now, a year later, you see all major media personalities are using Twitter. Is your target market there too?

How to attain success with your online home business is a subject that can easily give you information-overload. However, applying just a few fundamental rules will inevitably lead you to success.

The Success Recipe for Home Based Business Owners

Ingredients:

2 cups Planning
1 tbsp Funds
1 Product – to begin with
1 cup Diligence
1/2 cup Patience
2 cups Persistence

(The above measurements are meant to give you a broad idea of the ratios, and should not be seen as literal.)

Method:

1. Planning:

This is the foundation on which you will be building your business, so it stands to reason that you should spend a good chunk of time on this.

First of all, you’ll need to know which niche you’ll be targeting. If you already know, then it’s easy. If not, this will require thorough research in various forms.

a.) Niche research – You can see what topics are currently the most popular by visiting 43Things.com and Springwise.com. There are, of course, many more ways to find a niche, but those 2 places will give you a quick overview of the things people want. Springwise also has a huge database of new business ideas based upon trends.

b.) Keyword research – Once you have decided on a niche, you will then need to see which keyword phrases are actually going to be worth investing your time in.

A good place to start is Google’s free keyword research tool. This will give you excellent up to date data.

I won’t be going into the nitty-gritty of keyword research here as it’s a rather large topic by itself. A small piece of advice, though… Keep your mind flexible by looking at the topics from different angles. For example, a wish to learn Japanese doesn’t necessarily have to be just that. It also means that those people most likely have an interest in Japan, the country, so your business could also be about, for example, traveling to Japan.

2. Funds:

Let’s face it, you will need money to a certain extent if you want to start a business, be it online or offline. Your available capital will also determine how long it will take to get your business rolling. The more funds you have, the less time it will require to get your business up and going. The less funds you have, the more time you will need to invest in the preparation and marketing of your business.

Depending on your niche, the funds you will be needing will vary greatly so I won’t hazard a guess here as to how much you’ll actually need. But, since the majority of your funds will most likely initially go into promoting your business, it stands to reason that the less competition you have, the less funds you’ll need – or the less time you’ll need to invest.

3. Product:

If you’re going to run a business, you naturally need a product. This can either be your own product, or one created by another person or business.

a.) Your own product – There are two ways in which you can obtain your own product.

1. Create one from scratch. This is by far the best and most profitable way to go, but needless to say, it’s also the most time-consuming and costly option – unless you have a wide variety of skills yourself.

This is definitely the way I recommend you take, but it will depend on how serious you are about your online business, and how long you intend to run it.

2. Use a product with Private Label Rights (PLR) and recreate it as your own. This is the easiest solution to having your own product, and ultimately the cheapest. Private Label Rights products allow you to modify an already-created product and put your name on it as if it were your own.

One thing to remember, though, is that the product is most likely being used by hundreds of other people in the same position as you, so you will need to spend time on making it as unique as possible.

b.) Reselling someone else’s product – this is essentially what affiliate marketing is. This is an easy way out, but it does have it’s hurdles since the Internet is full of people making a full-time living as professional affiliate marketers.

These 3 go hand-in-hand. One thing that many people entering the online marketing arena don’t reckon with is that it’s like creating any other offline business. Nothing happens instantly. There is no silver bullet. The “overnight millionaire” dream is a fantasy – it simply doesn’t exist.

Granted, there are many Internet marketers who claim to have made millions – and some of them are true. They tell their story as though it happened overnight, but they don’t tell you about all the time – sometimes years – and money – usually thousands, even tens of thousands – they spent on laying the foundation for their “overnight” success.

Everybody has to take a “first step”. Once you’ve taken your first step, you then have to take your “second step”. And the only way you can finally walk is to keep at it – step by step.

Be diligent – don’t be lazy. Customers have a knack for spotting laziness. Keep in mind, your reputation is on the line.

Be patient – don’t expect anything to happen instantly. Marketing and promoting your business can be a lengthy endeavor, and you will need to give your actions time to mature. But with patience and persistence, you will eventually reap the benefits.

And lastly, keep going. As with any business, you need to build a track record. The longer your history is as an ethical and trusted business, the more people will be able to entrust their money to you.

Another bit of advice… If you want to really succeed online, diversify. You will need more than one venture to get the income you need. But don’t think of each venture as a business. Think of them all together as your business.

Now I can share useful content and connect with my fans with just a one time effort. I don’t even have to log into my Facebook account to do it. The app automates the entire process for me.

However, this app only works if your blog is running on a Wordpress platform. You won’t be able to use it if you use say, blogger.com for your blog. This is because Wordpress is currently the most widely used blogging platform due to its ease of customization and the wide varieties of plugins that are created for it.

Especially when steeped in financial challenges, the natural human tendency is to abandon focus and follow the brightest, glitziest, get-rich-quick-scheme that promises money the fastest. Out the window flies your life purpose, your goal to make a difference in the world, and your desire to spend your days earning money at something you love.

I couldn't possibly enumerate the number of people I've watched get caught up in some money-making venture that is completely outside their focus. They end up meeting failure as a result. In the time they spent following the money they could have focused on what they're ideally suited to do and made great strides toward not only building a career that could last a lifetime, but also finding joy in the journey.

The thing about focus is that most people never take the time for self-reflection. They don't examine who they are, what they enjoy, and what skills they have within themselves. Because they don't stand for anything in particular, they fall for anything that promises money.

Don't be one who fails to do their homework. Don't be like a novice Chicago farmer who hears pineapple growers make good money, plants a crop of them, yet never stops to analyze his soil and climate to realize that pineapples won't even grow in Chicago.

Other people's cash crops won't always grow in your soil. But there are cash crops that will grow in your soil. The trick is analyzing the resources available to you -- your interests, talents, skills -- and planting something you're ideally suited to grow.

The first step is to take an inventory:

    What do people tell you that you are good at?
    What do you think you're good at?
    What do you enjoy?
    If you could do any work in the world and not even have to be paid to do it, what would it be?
    What lessons have you learned from the school of hard knocks? Take some time to outline the challenges you've faced in life and the lessons you've learned from them.
    Who do you enjoy working with? Entrepreneurs? Men? Women? Moms? Dads? Executives? Children? Etc.
    What talents, resources and skills do your friends and relatives have?

The number one question people ask me is "How do you do it all? How do you run 10 Web sites, raise six children, and write books?" Whenever someone asks me this I just chuckle and tell them that if they could see my house, they'd understand! Or sometimes I admit to workaholism. But there are clear and definite ways to maximize your time to accomplish more without getting out of balance. In this article I'll share a few.

1. Work with your moods.

You know how most people look at everything they have to do and start with the worst first. They say, "I hate to do it, but I really have to get my bills paid today. Uggh! I'd rather be writing or designing my web site or calling new customers, but I've set aside Monday's to pay my bills, so that's what I've got to do today."

Bills do need to be paid, but if you're in a creative mood with ideas and energy that want to go elsewhere, follow your creative energy where it leads. Then when that energy has passed, do things like paying your bills and other tasks that don't need that creative flow.

This is the way I've worked for years. If I feel like writing, I write. If I feel like tinkering with my web site, I do that. If I feel like finding new ways to market my business or develop new income streams, I do those things. If I feel like finding out how much money I've made or have to spend, I do my billing and bookkeeping. When you work with your moods you're in a state of flow and when you're in this state you accomplish more in less time.

2. Lean on a Higher Power.

When you know that there is Someone higher than you - Someone infinite and eternal who can do anything and that this Someone is on your side and ready and willing to help you, you can accomplish anything! You are not alone! You don't have to jump those hurdles by yourself. Acknowledge your own inability to climb the mountain, ask for help, expect it, and watch miracles occur.

3. Prioritize Your Day.

In the morning carefully consider what you feel you should accomplish for that day. Listen to your moods. Pray about what you should do, and listen carefully for answers. What do you feel inspired and motivated to do? Write these down. Act on them! It's important that you do! After writing down 1-2 important things you'd like to accomplish that day, make a list of smaller activities and keep them handy for when you have a spare moment (more on this later).

4. Learn to Hop with Focus.

With a husband, six children and customers vying for my attention, I have to be able to write, take a phone call and then restart mid-sentence. I must be able to get up and get a snack for a 3-year-old and jump right back into programming my web site. Have an overall objective clear in your mind and then when distractions come, make sure you return to task when they've passed.

5. Use Small Bits of Time.

Keep a list of little things that you need to do that can be accomplished in 5 minutes or 10. In five minutes you can set an appointment, feed your pets, empty a dishwasher, download your email. In ten you can load a dishwasher, fold a load of laundry, take a walk to clear your head, answer an email, make a change to a web page. Never "kill a few minutes" use them instead!

6. Eliminate Time Wasters.

The number one thing that most people spend time on that I do not is watching television. I watch maybe 1-2 movies each week and the rest of the time I'm either working, caring for my family or reading. Think about it, a person who comes home from work and averages watching 5-6 hours of television per day, just flushed 35-42 hours/week down the toilet! He could be working an entirely second job, spending time building lasting relationships with his family or enjoying a productive hobby and developing new skills. Think of what you could accomplish if you had twice the hours of the normal person!

7. Remember: Daily tasks, performed consistently over time yield great results.

People look at all I've accomplished and say, "Wow! How do you do all that?" Well, I've been in business for 15 years. Every new skill acquired builds on the last. Plug along with purpose, vision and direction and give it time. Rome wasn't built in a day!

Most of all it helps to have a spouse and children who allow you to reach your full potential, who help, put up with a less-than-immaculate-house, and who believe in you. You may or may not have that type of support system, but at least now you know a few of my practical secrets to accomplishing more in less time. I hope you find them helpful in reaching your worthwhile desires!

The Ultimate Secrets of Truly Effective Affirmation Techniques

Affirmation has been used by successful people for centuries. It has helped many ordinary people achieve extraordinary results in their lives. It has turned many failures into successes. It has made many miracles happen in the history of human evolution. However, the majority of people who use affirmation find that it doesn’t work. Why is this the case? What are the elements that people have missed when they use affirmation techniques? I constantly ask myself these questions, and seek for the answers. The result is, no one book gives the complete answer. Some tips given in one book work for a specific situation, but not for others. Other books give other tips that work for other situations, but not for this. I have tested and filtered out the ineffective ones, and left only what I call the ultimate effective technique secrets.

The purpose of affirmation:

Before I give you the effective techniques, I must make you understand the true purpose of affirmation. Simply stated, the purpose of affirmation is to pass a command from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind has the ability, in anything it accepts as true, to do whatever it takes to turn it into reality. The purpose of an affirmation is to pass a message to the subconscious mind, and to make it believe the message is true. So this brings us to the first element of an effective affirmation.

1. The affirmation must be believable to the subconscious mind

Most of the affirmations people use, fail at this first stage. They tend to give an unrealistic message to the subconscious mind, hoping for a positive response. If you are financially broke, and you say to yourself “I earn $100,000 per year”, is this believable to your mind? If your body is totally out of shape, and you say to yourself “I am very attractive”, is this believable to your mind? I doubt it.

What if you are currently broke, and you want to make $100,000 per year? What if you are out of shape, and you want to make yourself attractive? I find the best and easiest way is to use the word “I choose” in your affirmation.

Instead of saying “I earn $100,000 per year.”

Say “I choose to earn $100,000 per year”

Instead of saying “I am very attractive”

Say “I choose to feel that people find me attractive”

Do you feel the difference?

2. The subconscious mind seeks for proof

There is a misconception that the affirmation must be repeated thousands of times before it can be installed in the subconscious mind. This is not necessarily true. You can use the repetition method to embed your affirmation, but there is an easier way. It is, at the time you find the proof, state your affirmation. Many people stay in poverty because they associate pain with money. Whenever they spend their money, they think of their bills, loans etc. This will automatically lead to ultimate pain. It is the feeling you attach to money that makes you rich or poor.

How can we turn this to our advantage? Instead of feeling pain when spending money, what if we associate pleasure with it? Next time when you go out shopping, at the moment you take out your money or credit card, say this affirmation to yourself “I always have more than enough to spend.”

See how you feel. This works because the subconscious mind sees the proof. As long as you have some money left in your pocket, this affirmation is always true, so the subconscious mind will believe it.

How about if we combine the first and second methods together and make an affirmation like this: “I choose to feel that I always have more than enough to spend.” Say this at the time you spend your money. See how you feel. You don’t have to repeat it thousands of times, a few times of real life proof will make your subconscious mind believe it.

3. The affirmation must trigger feelings

A fact about the subconscious mind is that it does not speak in words, you can only communicate with it through feelings, and emotions. There are two methods that you can use to trigger your feelings. The first method is to use words that involve feelings. Words like “fun, enjoyable, comfortable, delightful” will work effectively. The second method is to use imagination. Visualize that the situation stated in your affirmation has already come true. See yourself in that situation and feel the feelings.

4. The affirmation must obey the 3 Ps factor.

The 3 Ps are Positive, Present Tense, and Personal.

Affirmations must be stated positively. Instead of saying “I am not fat”, say “I choose to stay slim”. The reason for this is that before the mind knows the meaning of, “I am not fat”, it must think of what fat means first. So saying that statement will inevitably lead to the feeling of being fat.

Affirmations must be in the present tense. Many books mention this. However, I only agree to some extent. If you say “I have a luxury car”, your mind will not believe you. The reason I include this here is that once it is combined with the first technique, it will work perfectly. Now say “I choose to have a luxury car”. Your mind will do its best to bring it into reality.

Affirmations must be personal. Your subconscious mind only works for you, not for others. If you say “Ann loves me”, it will not be effective, because you have no control over Ann. Now say “I choose to feel that Ann really loves me”. This time you are in control, because you can control your own feelings.

5. Personal development affirmations should be stated in the comparative

“I am confident” may not be as effective as “I am becoming more and more confident”.

An even better affirmation might be “I choose to feel more and more confident”.

The reason for using the comparative, is because there is no end to how much more confident you can become. Otherwise, your mind may think you are already confident enough, and it will not need to do any more work.

These 5 techniques are the most effective ones that I have found from my research on affirmations. If you can use all the 5 techniques, I guarantee your results will be amazing. Even if you only use one or two of the techniques stated here, you will find your affirmations will become far more effective.

It is written, "ask and ye shall receive." But what if we don't ever ask? What if we don't knock or seek? Then can we ever find? I believe the majority of adults never ask specifically for what they want. We might gripe or complain about what we don't like, but we don't get positively specific about what we do want.

The main reason is because, honestly, we don't know what we want! We've forgotten how to dream.

I think back to my own parents. I was one of those kids who wanted to be an archaeologist one week, an artist the next, and a chemist the week after that. My parents never told me it wasn't practical or that I wouldn't be successful at any of these endeavors. Rather, they provided everything I needed to explore my interests: bought me a geology kit, a chemistry set, a banjo, gave me piano lessons, and let me experiment with my mother's acrylic paints. They made me believe that I was smart and that anything was possible that I set out to achieve.

Yet, still through the course of my life, I managed to forget how to dream. Perhaps it was when I became a parent and had responsibilities to my own family. After all, I couldn't just take off and leave for Hawaii with babies to care for, a business to run and a household to maintain. I pushed my dreams to the side in favor of being responsible and practical. Those dreams would have to wait.

The reality is that few of us ever come back to the dreams we've put on hold. Instead, we live on a treadmill of repetitive tasks where today looks very much like yesterday with very little (if any) progress toward our aspirations.

The only way to overcome the fears that steal our dreams is to face them. Envisioning in detail what we think we want is a great way to try on a dream to see if it fits. Take time each day to build a dream of your ideal life -- what it will look like, feel like, sound like, and be like in every detail. The great thing about daydreaming is that you can tweak it until it's just right... until it's perfect in every way.

Once you've envisioned this ideal life, pray about it. Ask for it! Then, commit it to paper. Write it down, read it frequently -- daily, morning and night. Make it a part of you. The wonderful thing is that as you do this, doors of opportunity will open that you never saw before. Walk through them. Ideas will come to you in the middle of the night. Act immediately upon them. Step by step, little by little, your life will transform into your vision.
